WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team earned its second-straight win to open the 2018 season as they overcame an early deficit to defeat Randolph-Macon, 15-10, in the Cardinals' home opener.

The Yellow Jackets scored twice to open the game but Catholic rallied with eight unanswered goals, including a 6-o second quarter.

Senior Samuel Montgomery got the scoring started for the Cards in the first and senior Bennett Bradley tied it up at two, 4:15 into the second. Catholic freshman duo of Patrick Silverman and Owen Smith teamed up on the go-ahead goal less than two minutes later which put the Cardinals up for good.

Smith led the Cardinals with an eight-point day on three goals and five assists. Bradley was the game's leading goal scorer (four) and added an assist for a five-point day.

Silverman, who debuted last week with an eight-point day of his own to make the USILA Team of the Week, added four more on a goal and three assists.

Sophomore Mark Tocchio (two goals), Montgomery (goal, assist) and senior Liam Clancy (three goals) all added multi-point games.

Sophomore Alex Mulyk kept the Cardinals in the game early and finished his day with 15 saves to improve to 2-0 on the year.

Defensemen Charles Kraemer led the Cards with two caused turnovers and added two ground balls, while short-stick midfielder Luke Scaduto led Catholic with four ground balls.

Randolph-Macon was able to win most statistical battles outside of goals and saves as Catholic was able to put up the points when it mattered most as the Cardinals converted on 5-of-7 man-up opportunities.

The Cardinals now head to face its second-straight ODAC opponents as they play at Hampden-Sydney this coming Wednesday night.
