Healy Leads Scoring as Cardinals Take Down Gophers

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Catholic men's lacrosse team captured another Landmark Conference victory on Wednesday evening against Goucher College. Burke Healy led the Cardinals in their 17-6 win, scoring five goals.

Catholic struck first, as Alejandro Masferrer found the back of the net off a feed from Healy. Less than a minute later, Ryan Carickhoff scored to double their lead. Cullen Lotz extended the Cardinals further, scoring the third goal assisted by Logan Farrington. Goucher's Gianni Karam put the Gophers on the board late in the first, but Catholic held a 3-1 lead as they closed out the first quarter.

Goucher carried that momentum in the second quarter, scoring within a minute of play to narrow the gap to one. The Cardinals quickly responded, scoring five unanswered goals in the second quarter. Lotz netted his second goal, again assisted by Farrington, followed by back-to-back goals from Chris McCabe. Masferrer added his second goal and Steven Dezelic capped the half with his first of the game, putting the Cardinals up 8-2.

The Cardinals maintained control in the second half, with Healy opening the third quarter with his first goal of the game. Healy and Dezelic each contributed another later in the period. Despite Goucher outscoring Catholic 3-2 in the third, the Cardinals led 11-5 heading into the fourth.

Catholic continued to bring the heat in the fourth, scoring six goals while allowing only one from the Gophers. Healy scored three in the quarter, starting with the opening goal. Carickhoff and Brady McMahon also found the net before Healy capped the scoring in the 17-6 victory.

Healy finished with seven points on the day, with five goals and two assists. He leads the team with 22 goals and 32 points so far in his debut season. Masferrer, and Carickhoff each totaled three points, each tallying two goals and an assist.

In goal, Colton Manorek earned the win for the game, playing 55 minutes and logging six saves. Manorek has recorded 104 saves so far in his sophomore season. Gianni Graziano also saw some action, making one save.

In faceoffs, the Cardinals were dominant. Jack Suchanek went 9 for 11 with eight ground balls, while Connor Baia went 14 for 15 with nine ground balls.
