BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Catholic men's lacrosse team opened Landmark Conference play in a dominant fashion over Moravian. 14 Cardinals contributed goals in the game to secure the 21-9 victory over the Greyhounds.
Alejandro Masferrer opened the scoring
 for the Cardinals, netting the first goal of the game off an assist from
Steven Dezelic.
Connor Baia added the second goal of the game, scoring straight off the faceoff, just five seconds after Masferrer to increase Catholic's lead. Moravian responded with a goal from Jack Minetti to get on the board, but the Cardinals answered with four more goals in the first quarter.
Ryan Carickhoff had two consecutive goals, first assisted by
Brady McMahon, then by
Logan Farrington.
Burke Healy and Dezelic contributed two more goals to close out the quarter, while
Will Gilfillan and
Cullen Lotz each recorded assists as the Cardinals led 6-1 heading into quarter two.
Catholic brought the heat in the second quarter, tallying nine goals and holding Moravian to only two. Carickhoff started the quarter by securing his hat trick, scoring off a feed from
Cullen Lotz. Dezelic captured his own hat trick directly after Carickhoff, scoring first off an assist fromÂ
Matt Shandley followed by another goal assisted byÂ
Chris McCabe.
Later in the second quarter,
Lukas Villa netted his third goal of the season, followed by
Danny Cappitelli's first goal of the season. Moravian was able to sneak two past the goalie, but Catholic answered each time with two response goals. Gilfillan, Populoh, McCabe, and Healy all contributed goals to extend the Cardinals to 15-3 to close out the first half.
Moravian found their footing in the second half, scoring six goals in an attempt to narrow the gap. Carickhoff opened the third quarter with another Cardinal goal, assisted by Masferrer, but the Greyhounds responded with two goals of their own. McMahon and Populoh netted their second goals of the game, helping Catholic maintain their double figure lead over Moravian heading into the final quarter of play.
The Greyhounds' Nick Coffaro started off the final quarter with a goal, but
Joe Devine answered, scoring his second goal of the season. With 10 minutes left in the game,
Grant Lanham scored his first career goal, the Cardinals' 20th of the game.
Bailey Wallace followed, scoring his first goal of the season off a feed from Villa. scored the first of the season. Coffaro closed out the game with another goal for Moravian, but Catholic had solidified the 21-9 win.
14 Cardinals scored goals against the Greyhounds, but it was
Ryan Carickhoff who led the pack with four goals and three assists for a total of seven points.
Steven Dezelic followed with a hat trick, his third of the season, and two assists for five points.
Alex Populoh and
Burke Healy had two goals apiece.
Colton Manorek earned the win for the game, logging eight saves.
Gianni Graziano,
Finn McGuire, and
Nicholas Mort all saw game action, with Mort recording a save against the Greyhounds.
This victory improves Catholic's overall record to 5-4 and 1-0 in Landmark play. Up next, the Cardinals will head to Towson, Md. on Wednesday, March 25 to continue conference play against Goucher. The game is set for 7 p.m. on Beldon Field.
