Healy’s Six Goals Power Catholic Past Drew

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic men's lacrosse team kept their win streak alive on Thursday afternoon with a dominant Landmark victory against Drew. Burke Healy led the Cardinals, contributing six goals to their 17-6 win over the Rangers.

Erik Aulbach opened the scoring, netting his first goal of the season just 13 seconds into the game, assisted by Healy. Drew responded a few minutes later with a goal from Yaneik Gallego, to even the score at one. Alejandro Masferrer answered, regaining the lead for the Cardinals.

Healy and Aulbach once again teamed up to extend Catholic's lead, each scoring with under two minutes left in the quarter. Healy netted his first of the game off a feed from Cullen Lotz, followed by another goal from Aulbach just seconds later to close the quarter with Catholic ahead 3-1.

Healy continued his scoring success with his second goal of the game less than a minute into the second quarter, this time assisted by Masferrer. He completed his hat trick about two minutes later on an assist from Steven Dezelic. The Rangers added two goals in the quarter, but Catholic continued to build their lead with four of their own. Dezelic and Brady McMahon each found the net, giving the Cardinals an 8-3 advantage heading into halftime.

Catholic  opened the second half with three straight goals, starting with Ryan Carickhoff, who scored less than 30 seconds into the third quarter. Healy then began his push for a double hat trick, notching back-to-back goals, assisted by Lotz and Dezelic. Catholic's defense held the Rangers to just one goal in the quarter, scored by Yaneik Gallego. 

The Cardinals continued to add to their tally in the third. Will Gilfillan recorded his first goal of the game, Catholic's 12th. With 23 seconds remaining, Finn Smith found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, putting Catholic up 13-4 heading into the final period.

Both teams continued to battle in the fourth quarter, with Catholic adding four more goals and Drew scoring two. The Cardinals once again opened the scoring, this time with an unassisted goal from Lotz to extend their lead to double digits. Healy secured his double hat trick with less than 10 minutes remaining, marking his 29th goal of the season. Carickhoff followed with his second of the game. 

Jack Dwyer capped the scoring for the Cardinals with his first goal of the season. Joseph Carabetta added one more for the Rangers, but they were unable to close the gap as Catholic secured their seventh straight win, 17-6.

Healy finished with seven points, recording six goals and one assist. The freshman attacker currently ranks third in the Landmark in points per game, averaging 4.00 with 44 total, and fourth in the conference in goals per game at 2.64. He leads the team with 29 goals and 15 assists.

Carickhoff, Lotz, and Dezelic each finished with three points, Dezelic and Lotz each recorded a goal and two assists while Carickhoff tallied two goals and an assist. Aulbach, Masferrer, and Dwyer each added two points. 

Connor Baia led the team in ground balls with nine, followed by Smith, Dezelic, and Jack Suchanek with four apiece. Shawn Zebrowski played a crucial role on defense, notching two caused turnovers.

In goal, Colton Manorek recorded another double-digit save performance, logging 10 saves and earning the win to improve his record to 8-4. Gianni Graziano also saw some game action, recording one save.

Catholic will be back in action on Wednesday, April 8 against Elizabethtown. The Cardinals will host the Blue Jays at 6 p.m. on Carlini Field.
