WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team improved to 4-1 to start the 2017 season with a victory at Marymount, 8-6. Senior midfielder Victor Licata scored three times to lead the charge for the Cardinals.

Catholic saw the first goal of the game go against them and trailed, 2-1, 20 minutes into the game but Licata tied it up and scored all three of his goals in an 18-minute span to cap a 5-0 run that put the Cards in control.

Junior Bennett Bradley scored twice for the Cardinals while seniors Tim Keith, Jack Murphy and Jack Oakes each added a goal in the winning effort. 

Marymount cut it to a one-goal game as they answered the Catholic run with a 3-0 spurt of their own but Murphy and Keith got the next two of the contest to secure the W.

Rookie goalkeeper Alex Mulyk earned his fourth win of the year as he made eight saves.

It was an evenly-matched game in most statistical categories, but the Catholic offense made the difference as they outshot Marymount, 45-26.

The start to the season matches the 2015 squad's 4-1 record, when they Cards went on to win the first of their back-to-back Landmark Championships.

Catholic will look to keep it going this Saturday when the Cardinals return home to face Coast Guard at 1 p.m.
