No. 19 Field Hockey Defeats Misericordia on the Road, 2-1

Box Score

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America field hockey team earned its fourth win of the season on Saturday, defeating Misericordia on the road, 2-1. Sophomore forward Molly Crowley scored the gamewinner for the No. 19 Cardinals with less than six minutes to play.

Catholic outshot Misericordia, 12-8, including a 10-2 mark in the first half, and overcame a 12-4 deficit in penalty corners. The Cougars attempted 10 corners in the second half, while the Cards did not have one in the final 35 minutes.

Crowley came through with the clinching goal at 64:33 as she took the feed from Kerri Shallow and buried it to push the Cardinals to victory.

Catholic got its first goal of the game off the stick of freshman Marykate McCracken, who scored with nine minutes to go in the first and gave the Cards a 1-0 lead going into the break.

Misericordia scored 20 minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal, but Catholic answered just nine minutes later to clinch the win.

The Cards will now enjoy a three-game homestand beginning this Monday in a national-ranked battle with No. 14 Christopher Newport at 4 p.m.
