HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Catholic field hockey team faced off against Juniata on the road for their last regular season match up of the season. The Cardinals defeated the Eagles in a shutout win, with
Katie Flynn and
Lauren Keast leading the team to a 2-0 victory.
The Cardinals struck early in the meeting against the Eagles, hunting to get on the board just minutes after the first whistle. They picked up two penalty corners in the first five minutes, and in the sixth minute, they found the back of the goal. The goal came from junior midfielder Keast who was assisted by Flynn. This marks Keast's second goal of the season and Flynn's second assist.
Catholic looked to extend their lead in the first half, recording 10 shots and eight corners, while the defense held Juniata off for the duration of the first 30 minutes, entering the intermission up 1-0.
Just four minutes into the second half the Cardinals struck once more. This time, Flynn picked up the goal and was assisted by Keast. This goal brings Flynn to the top of the leader board alongside teammate
Bella Reyes with four goals on the season. Juniata attempted to get on the board themselves, picking up two shots in quarter three, but the Cardinals defense was able to hold them off, leading 2-0 heading into the final quarter.
The final quarter saw two more shots and two more corners for the Cardinals, but they finished the match up leading 2-0 over Juniata, securing a victory to close out the season.
The Cardinals outshot the Eagles 14-2 in the meeting and picked up 12 penalty corners, holding the Eagles to only 1.
Ella Bowman earned the shutout for the victory over Juniata, and picked up one save, closing out the season with 125 saves. Flynn and Keast proved to be a dynamic duo in the match up, leading the team with four shots apiece and each notching a goal and assist to bring the Cardinals to victory.
The Cardinals are now 17-9 over the Eagles in series history and 9-1 in the last 10 match ups. This game closes out the Catholic field hockey season. With this win, the Cardinals extend their record to 3-6 in Landmark Conference play and 3-13 overall.
