Cardinals Collect First Road Win Against Drew in Impressive Fashion


MADISON, N.J. – The Catholic field hockey team traveled to Madison, N.J. to take on Drew and earned a 5-2 win in impressive fashion. 

Katie Flynn more than doubled her season goals in today's matchup at Drew. She collected her first goal in the final minute of the 1st quarter. She received a pass from Maya Gutierrez-Flores and then flicked the ball to the back of the cage to give Catholic an early lead.

Bella Fini evened the score early in the 2nd minute of the 2nd quarter for the Rangers. 

In the 1st minute of the second half, Drew pulled ahead with a goal from Chandler Straub, assisted by Emily Caporrino.

The Cardinals answered with two goals in the quarter, in the 37th and 39th minutes. Flynn scored her second goal with an assist from Sophia Gomez. Her ball to the high back of the cage evened the score once again. After collecting an assist on the day, Gomez scored a goal of her own off off an assist from Bella Reyes.

Catholic increased the lead with a goal from Mary Rojack. The senior recovered a loose ball and shot from the left side to bring the score to 4-2 in the fourth quarter.

Gutierrez-Flores sealed the win with a goal in the 52nd minute of the game. She was awarded a penalty stroke, which she flicked to the boards to bring the score to 5-2.

With her 7 saves today, sophomore goalkeeper Ella Bowman has earned 101 saves this season. This places her 3rd in the conference with 13 games played, compared to the 16 games of the two leaders.

Today's goal scorers were Katie Flynn (2), Sophia Gomez, Maya Gutierrez-Flores, and Mary Rojack. Gutierrez-Flores scored her first goal of the season during her penalty stroke. Gomez and Gutierrez-Flores each collected an assist. 

Up next, the Cardinals host Susquehanna on Wednesday, October 22 at 6 p.m. in Landmark play.
