Cardinals Fall to River Hawks at Home

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic Field Hockey team faced off against Susquehanna University on Wednesday evening at home for another conference meeting. Bella Reyes was able to pick up a late goal for the Cardinals, but they ultimately fell to the River Hawks 5-1 in the match up.

The River Hawks took an early lead in the game, going up two goals in quarter one. Kiara Koeller put up both goals in the first, one in the third minute and another in the fifth.

The Cardinals took it up a notch in the second quarter, recording three shots and a corner in the first few minutes. Taylor Rothermel picked up another goal in favor of the River Hawks to close out the first half, heading into the break leading 3-0 over the Cardinals. 

The Cardinal defense proved their strength in the third quarter. The River Hawks had five shots and three corners in the quarter, but the Cardinals held them off for the full 15 minutes. 

Susquehanna found the back of the goal twice more with 10 minutes left in the game. The Cardinals responded in the fourth with a goal from Reyes in the 55th minute. Reyes now leads the team with nine points and is now tied with Katie Flynn on the leaderboard with three goals this season. 

Catholic was unable to mount a comeback, falling to Susquehanna 5-1.

Ella Bowman recorded 17 saves in the meeting, a career-high performance. She notched six in the first half and 11 in the second. This brings Bowman to a total of 118 saves this season.

This loss brings the Cardinals to 2-5 in Landmark Conference play. Up next, the Cardinals will host Scranton on Saturday, October 25th at 1:00 p.m. for senior day.
