Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America earned its fifth win of the 2015 season when it defeated Misericordia, 2-0, at Cardinal Stadium on Saturday evening. The No. 12 Cardinals now hold a 5-1 overall record for the year while the Cougars drop to 2-4.
The Catholic offense capitalized on their possessions, outshooting Misericordia 16-6, with ten shots on goal throughout the game. Although the Cards had the shooting advantage, they were unable to connect with the cage in the first half, leaving the board with zeros at the halftime intermission.
CUA freshman Hannah Schied opened the game up for the Cardinals in the 38th minutes when received a ball from the left side of the field and entered the circle, making a swift move around the goalie for the open shot and 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later the Cards notched their insurance goal. Freshman Lane Adams powered through the defense making a diving pass to the stroke for sophomore Rachel Day to knock the ball into the cage for a 2-0 score.
Day lead the Cardinal offense firing four shot during the match, each on target, while Scheid took three. Seniors Taylor Elliott, Ellen Thorburn, and Hayley Wright each added two shots to the CUA tally, with one shot on goal apiece.
Catholic Junior goalkeeper Analisa Scott earned her eighth career shutout and made one save during the match.
The Cardinals will travel to Lexington, Va., on Monday, Sept 21 to take on the Washington & Lee Generals at 3 p.m., before opening Landmark Conference play Saturday, Sept., 26 against Elizabethtown at Cardinal Stadium at 1 p.m.
