Box Score WASHINGTON- It was a record setting afternoon for The Catholic University of America field hokey team, as they defeated the Cougars of Misericordia 8-4, scoring the highest number of goals this season.
Seven different Cardinals found the box in the win, with Maura Campbell leading the squad with two goals.
Campbell put CUA on the scoreboard with her second game-opening penalty shot of the season. Rachel Day extended the lead when she landed a cross pass from Campbell to take a 2-0 lead.
Misericordia answered back with a penalty shot by Colby Eldridge.
Ellen Thorburn scored the last goal of the first half for Catholic, sending a loose ball into the cage. Thorburn's goal was assisted by Day.
The Cougar's Lindsay Hischak brought her team within one by the half on an unassisted goal.
Misericordia tied the game in the opening minutes of the second half, when Emily Hegner sent a pass to Eldridge, who delivered it to the back of the net.
Nevertheless, the Cougar's opening surge was diminished, as CUA went on to score five goals in the last 31 minutes of play. Tarah Portland fired in Day's pass from the top of the circle. Colleen Harwood finished up a pass from Campbell and Lizzie Ireland followed up with an unassisted goal.
Hannah Harvey of Misericordia distracted the scoring frenzy with a goal on a corner inserted by Danika Watto.
Marisa Martinelli and Campbell locked up the afternoon by downing two final goals.
Catholic concluded the day with 16 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
Analisa Scott and Emma Warden shared in goal responsibilities. Scott finished with three saves and three goals against, while Warden allowed one goal against.
Catholic will wrap up the month of September at Elizabethtown on Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m.
