Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Erin Thompson and Anna Scoblick combined for 32 points as Catholic earned a hard-fought 64-59 Landmark Conference win over Moravian on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals improved to 15-4 overall and 6-2 in the Landmark.

The Cardinals trailed 29-25 after 20 minutes of action but proceeded to outscore the Greyhounds by nine in the second half to earn a five-point win.

Catholic tied the contest at 31-31 with 7:09 left in the third quarter on a Rachel Bussanich layup. Bussanich forced a turnover 10 seconds later and the result was a Carly Mulvaney three off a feed from Thompson to put Catholic on top 34-31. Mulvaney scored again at the 6:22 mark, but Moravian was able to tie the contest on an and-one with 6:02 remaining in the period.

The Greyhounds retook the lead with 3:29 to go in the third before Keegan Douglas scored off a Bussanich assist to knot the game at 40 13 seconds later. It was Douglas again finding the bottom of the net with 2:11 left in the third to put Catholic back on top. Moravian went back up three, but Bussanich scored while getting fouled just before the third quarter horn sounded and the Cardinals were within one to start the fourth.

Catholic came out on fire in the fourth, using an 11-0 run to take a 55-45 lead with 5:39 to go. Thompson had five, Scoblick had four, and Douglas added the other bucket during the run.

Moravian answered back with a run of its own, cutting the deficit to 58-55 with 2:08 remaining, but Douglas answered with a massive three from the wing in front of her own bench to put the Cardinals on top by six. The shot proved crucial as the Greyhounds got back within two with 35 seconds to play. Douglas made one-of-two from the line to push Catholic ahead 62-59 with 18 seconds left. The Cardinals forced a turnover, but Douglas missed a pair of free throws with 12 seconds remaining. Moravian was called for an offensive foul and Thompson hit a pair of free throws to ice it for Catholic.

Douglas was massive in the second half for Catholic, scoring 10 of her 12 points in the final 20 minutes.

Catholic outrebounded the Greyhounds by seven (45-38) with Bussanich pulling in 12. The Cardinals did a nice job spreading the ball around offensively, assisting on 14 of their 22 made baskets.

Catholic welcomes Goucher to town on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
