Catholic Women's Basketball Picked Second in Preseason Poll

| By:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic women's basketball team was predicted to finish second in the Landmark Conference Preseason Poll, it was announced today. The Cardinals received 71 points and one first place vote.

Head Coach Matt Donohue returns for his 18th season at the helm after making a trip to the Conference tournament in the 2025-26 season. Last season, the Cardinals went 18-9 overall and 14-4 in conference play.

The Cardinals will lean heavily on their junior class this season after losing two all-conference athletes, All-American Anna Scoblick and Amelia Kennedy.

Carly Catania makes her return for the Cardinals, leading the team with a total of 710 minutes and the only player to start every game, 27, in the 2025-26 season. Catania also tallied the second most points on the squad with 259, just behind Scoblick. Lauren Kraft was third on the scoring list, totaling 242 points. The junior also led the squad with 52 threes made on the year. Kraft and Catania were a force to be reckoned with on defense, collecting 42 steals, apiece.

McKenna Karlson is another key returner, starting 25 games and appearing in 26 last season. Karlson scored 151 points during the season, highlighted by the most free throws made (37) by this season's returners. Off of the bench, Raquel Guidetti made an impact for Catholic. The junior appeared in all 27 games last season and made 145 points, the fourth most out of any returner.

The Cardinals welcome five newcomers: freshmen Sela Travieso, Adriana Ortiz-Mayorga, Morgan Ferguson, Aletha Reynolds, and sophomore transfer Reese Fiore.

The highlight of Landmark play will be when the Cardinals travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete against Drew in the Landmark Gameday at the Palestra event. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Sunday, January 10th.

Catholic's season tips off Friday, November 6th at the Rebecca Martin Tip-Off hosted by McDaniel. The Cardinals will take on Union at 8 p.m. in the Gill Center.
