Cardinals Post Second-Straight Road Win, 61-54 at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Catholic University women's basketball sophomore Erin Doherty scored a career-high 18 points as the Cardinals posted their second-straight road win with a 61-54 victory over Moravian Friday at Johnston Hall.

Catholic (2-1, 2-1 LC) limited the Greyhounds to just 30.6 percent shooting from the floor and forced them into 23 turnovers.

After falling behind 20-13 after the first quarter, the Cardinals outscored the hosts 13-5 in the second to take a one point halftime lead, 26-25. Doherty and sophomore Amelia Baldo combined for 10 of the team's 13 points while Moravian was just 2-of-15 from the floor and committed seven turnovers.

Baldo finished the game with 12 points. She has scored at least 10 points in two of three games this season after totaling just two games with at least 10 points all last season.

Catholic scored 10 of the first 14 points to start the third quarter to take a 36-29 advantage with 6:03 remaining. The Greyhounds (3-2, 2-2 LC) answered with a 6-0 run to pull within one before the teams entered the fourth tied at 41-41.

With the score deadlocked at 48-48, five-straight points by Doherty gave the Cardinals a 53-48 lead before a layup by Doherty put the visitors in front by six, 57-51 with under three minutes to play.

Catholic held Moravian to just three points over the final 4:40 while scoring four of its eight points from the free throw line, going 4-for-6 in the last two minutes. Sophomore Rachel Bussanich scored three of her five fourth-quarter points from the line, going 3-for-4. She finished the game 6-of-8 from the line while totaling eight points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Junior Amanda Johnson totaled eight points, nine rebounds and three assists, just missing another double double for the second-straight game after posting the first one of her career in the opener against Drew. Sophomore Sammie McCarter had a career-high four assists to go along with six rebounds, one shy of her career high.

The Cardinals look to complete the season sweep on Sunday when they host the Greyhounds on Franny Murray Court beginning at 2 p.m.
