RICHMOND, Va. - With 411.5 points, the Catholic University men's swimming team currently sits in second place following the first session of the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Friday.
The Cardinals are in second place out of 10 teams competing at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center which features the same pool used at the 2008 US Olympic Trials that saw nine world, 21 national and 17 U.S. Open records broken that year.
Washington College leads with 492 points through 10 events while Lynchburg is third with 345 and Division II Frostburg State is fourth with 340.5.
The highlight of the day came in the 500-yard freestyle where junior Ellis Prescott finished first in a time of 4:47.26, better his season-best by just under 15 seconds.
Sophomore Nathan Ober and freshman Jackson Hicks led the way for the Cardinals as each totaled three top-5 finishes. Ober placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.67 seconds while Hicks finished fifth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:01.57.
Ober and Hicks teammed with freshman William Crecca and senior Jeffrey Schriefer-Flores to place second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:26:38.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Ober, Hicks and Schriefer-Flores partnered with sophomore Jack Hufner to take second in 3:31.58.
Crecca touched the wall just four-hundreths of a second behind Ober in the 50 free to take fifth.
The Yellow Jacket Invitational concludes with two sessions on Saturday beginning with session two at 8:45 a.m. Session three begins at 4:45 p.m.
