Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Led by senior Amanda Johnson, the Catholic University women's basketball team captured a 71-43 victory over Pfeiffer Monday in the Jamie L. Roberts Classic presented by Sport Tours International.
Johnson led all scorers with 13 points and was one of four players who scored in double-digits for the Cardinals (9-1).
Junior Erin Doherty continued her successful tournament with 10 points, five rebounds and a season-high five assists while senior Luca Mamula contributed 11 points and five steals off the bench. Sophomore Molly Aromando added 10 points.
Led by five first-quarter points from freshman Carly Mulvaney, Catholic jumped out to a 24-7 lead over the Falcons.
The Cardinals held Pfeiffer scoreless through the first seven minutes of the second quarter while extending their lead to 33 points. They were 6-of-6 from the free-throw line in the second to add to their lead.
The Catholic defense was stellar in the first half, holding Pfeiffer to just 17.9-percent shooting, including 0-of-14 from three-point range.
Johnson contributed six points, three rebounds and two steals in the second half while junior Rachel Bussanich finished with nine rebounds.
The Jamie L. Roberts All-Classic Team will be announced after the final game between Pfeiffer and Salisbury on Tuesday.
Catholic returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 29 when it takes on No. 19/25 Gettysburg in the Stevens Holiday Classic. Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
