WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic women's basketball team hosted Wilkes in Landmark play on Saturday afternoon, fighting to remain undefeated in conference play. The Cardinals had no trouble on offense in today's matchup, thwarting the Colonels in a 83 to 44 win.
Catholic came out on fire in the first quarter, outsourcing the Colonels 22 to 10.
Anna Scoblick opened up the quarter with a layup. The senior collected a foul shot and
Amelia Kennedy sank one from downtown to bring the Cardinals up 6-0. The Cardinals ended the quarter with a seven point run, credited to four different Cardinals.
Raquel Guidetti made a free throw attempt with
Carly Catania converting two.
McKenna Karlson and
Amelia Kennedy each scored a bucket within the paint.
Starting the second quarter, Catholic kept its foot on the gas.
Lauren Kraft set the tone with a three-pointer, assisted by
Alexa Kenah. Kenah then collected a bucket of her own.
Sam Blumenthal collected an offensive rebound and converted to bring the Catholic lead to 48-19 with just over a minute left in the half.
Olivia Boccella improved upon the lead by finding the hoop on a deep three-pointer. The Cardinals and Colonels went into the locker room with a halftime score of 51-19.
This is the most points that the Cardinals have had heading into halftime this season.Â
Catania opened up the third quarter with a driving layup, entering herself into the double digits. Wilkes attempted to fight back, scoring 11 points to Catholic's 12 in the first four minutes of the quarter.
Ella Iacone sank a three to increase the Cardinal lead to 69-32 with 3:22 left to play. Guidetti collected a defensive rebound and traversed the court to collect her first two point bucket of the game. With 3.8 seconds left in the third quarter,
Lia Villa collected her first point of the game at the foul line and helped the Cardinals end the quarter up 72-34.
Lilla opened up the fourth quarter with a pull up three, assisted by
Olivia Boccella. Late in the fourth quarter,
Brooke Kroptavich drove through the lane and scored.
Bridget Archbold scored a layup with 18 seconds left on the clock and closed out the 83-44 Cardinal win. Â
Carly Catania scored an impressive 13 points in today's win in just 17 minutes of play.Â
With her four assists in today's game,
Anna Scoblick is now tied for 12th for career assists at 213. Scoblick also scored 11 points in today's match.
Lauren Kraft led the team with seven rebounds and also put up nine points.
