Cardinals Offense Shines Against Juniata

WASHINGTON, D.C.  — The Catholic women's basketball team hosted Juniata for their Landmark Conference matchup of the season. Catholic's offense stole the show in today's matchup, giving way to a 77 to 38 win.

The Eagles find the board first with a three from Olivia Berg. The preseason All-American, Anna Scoblick, answered for the Cardinals with a layup. A steal from Amelia Kennedy led to a fast break with Allie Falesto making the turnover count converting under the hoop. Raquel Guidetti, off of the bench, tied the game for the first time at nine apiece sinking an open three from the left side. Despite trailing early, the Cardinals came out ahead 21 to 15.

The second quarter opened up with a scoring drought for the Cardinals. With 6:03 left in the quarter, Falesto made good at the free throw line to move the Cardinals up to 22 points. Despite not being able to find the net for about four minutes, the Catholic defense only allowed Juniata to convert one time. A three from Lauren Kraft and a layup from Scoblick and Falesto each brought the score to 31 to 21, the biggest lead of the game so far. Catholic ended the quarter up 34 to 28.

Carly Catania came out of the locker room hot, scoring nine points in the third quarter. The sophomore started out by sinking a three from up top. Catania added a free throw and a layup to increase the lead by 12 points. Sam Blumenthal came off the bench big this quarter, scoring twice in the paint. Going on a tear, the Cardinals outscored the Eagles 22 to 6 in the third quarter.

Catholic headed into the fourth quarter looking to seal the deal and remain undefeated at home. The Cardinals outscored the Eagles in the first five minutes 9 to 4, thanks to a handful of athletes. Olivia Boccella put herself on the board with a driving layup, Kraft doing the same. Molly McLaughlin made the most of her opportunity late in the game, scoring her first basket of the season as the time dwindled down. Catholic outscored Juniata 21 to 4 in the fourth quarter, securing a 77 to 38 win.

Twelve different Cardinals scored in today's game, with Anna Scoblick leading the way with 13 points. Also scoring double digits were Carly Catania with 12 and Amelia Kennedy with 10.
Catania led the team with seven rebounds, with Ella Iacone following just behind with six.

The Catholic defense was a force to be reckoned with in the second half, holding Juniata to just 10 points.

Up next, the Cardinals will host Wilkes in a Landmark Conference matchup at 4 pm following the Catholic men's basketball game on Saturday, December 6th.
