Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University field hockey senior Katie Cusumano and sophomore Carly Bateman each scored two goals as Catholic posted a 5-2 win over Elizabethtown Friday at Cardinal Stadium.
Catholic (3-7, 2-0 LC) has now won seven consecutive Landmark Conference contests dating back to Oct. 5, 2019. The team has also won six-straight against Blue Jays.
The two teams combined for four first-quarter goals and six in the game's first 20 minutes. Bateman started the rush when she scored just 1:13 into the contest off an assist from sophomore Mary Parker.
Cusumano followed just over three minutes later before sophomore Lauren D'Emilio scored her first career goal to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead with only six minutes gone by in the opening quarter.
Elizabethtown (5-5, 1-1 LC) got on the board with 3:16 remaining in the first, but the Cardinals pushed their advantage back to three when Bateman netted her second goal of the game just 40 seconds into the second quarter.
All three of Bateman's goals this season have come in the team's last three games.
The Blue Jays' leading scorer, Grace Hardy, scored her ninth goal of the season with 9:36 left in the second off Sydney Aguilar's second assist of the night.
Catholic led 4-1 at halftime after outshooting Elizabethtown 8-2 in the first 30 minutes. The Cardinals also held a 4-1 edge in penalty corners.
Angelina Giglio-Tos made three of her 10 saves in the first half while Megan Meyer had one of her two defensive saves.
After a six-goal first half, neither team scored in the third before Cusumano found the back of the cage for her team-leading fifth goal of the year with over five minutes remaining in the fourth.
Catholic outshot the Blue Jays 13-0 in the second half, including 9-0 in the fourth quarter.
Junior Maeve McCarthy picked up her first win of the season in goal for the Cardinals, making two first-half saves before giving way to senior Maysen Elliott.
Catholic returns to action next Wednesday, Oct. 6 when it hosts a non-conference contest versus Mary Washington beginning at 6 p.m. The Cardinals and Eagles have met 21 times since 2000.
