Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's basketball team fell 66-61 in overtime to Elizabethtown College in a Landmark Conference game on Wednesday evening.
Catholic senior Briana Bull and sophomore Mollie Reynolds each knocked down 14 points while Reynolds tallied four steals and three rebounds and Bull dished out two assists. The Cardinals' bench put together 15 points with senior Samantha Cowan leading the way on six points.
Despite the loss, the Cardinals shot an outstanding 81.3% from the free throw line. Sophomore Megan Stafford went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe while Bull, Cowan and sophomore Sydney Poindexter each hit 2-of-2. Junior Sarah O'Neill and freshman CC Mooney each sunk one.
The Blue Jays came out strong outscoring the Cardinals 13-12 in the first quarter and 22-16 in the second to take a 35-28 lead at the halftime intermission. They increased the margin by just one in the third quarter with an 11-10 (46-38) advantage over the period.
The Catholic starters rallied in the fourth quarter to close the gap and force an overtime period. The Cardinals collected 18 points while the Blue Jays only totaled 10 in the final 10-minutes. Reynolds and Poindexter each tallied six points while Bull registered four and Stafford recorded two.
In the final minute of regulation, Poindexter recorded an outstanding four points on two foul shots and a layup while Reynolds put in Catholic's final layup before overtime.
The Blue Jays manage 10 points in the extra five minute period and held the Cardinals to just five for the league win.
The Cardinals return to the nation's capital to host Landmark foe Moravian College on Saturday, February 17. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
