Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's basketball team topped the River Hawks of Susquehanna University 67-41 on Wednesday night.
Catholic senior Briana Bull put up a game-high 14 points as she sunk 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Bull also registered a team-high six rebounds, five steals and three assists. Fellow starter senior Samantha Cowan recorded 10 points for the Cardinals with sophomore Megan Stafford tallied nine and six rebounds.
Turning to the Catholic reserves, 11 non-starters saw minutes on the hardwood as the Cardinals' bench racked up 21 points. Sophomore CC Cromer registered five points while junior Emily O'Connor and freshman Kate Parker each scored four.
Sophomore Mollie Reynolds opened the contest with a layup and the Cardinals would not give up the lead through the remainder of the game. The River Hawks tied the match at 8 a piece in the third minute before a free throw from Bull sent Catholic on a 12-4 run to finish the first period with a 20-12 advantage.
The Cardinals continued to dominate the River Hawks and saw their largest lead of the first half (16-points) after a layup from Bull with three and a half minutes remaining the second quarter.
Just 20 seconds into the third period Cowan advanced the margin to 17 (39-22) with a three-point bucket and the flock began to soar. Stafford hit five points and O'Conner knocked down four as the Cardinals outshot the Hawks 18-9 in the period.
Susquehanna tried to fight back with 10 total points in the final quarter but Catholic's lead was just too large. The Cardinals put up 13 fourth period points of their own to capture the midweek home game.
The Cardinals fly north to Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., to take on the Eagles at 4 p.m., on Saturday, January 27.
