Bethlehem, Pa. - The Catholic University of America women's basketball fell 68-58 to the Greyhounds of Moravian College on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals, now 2-2 in the Landmark Conference (11-4 overall), saw three women score double-digit points in the league showdown. Sophomore Sydney Poindexter scored a career-high 14 points and she pulled down six rebounds while registering a block and a steal.

Fellow starter, senior Payton Smith totaled 12 points in the weekend contest while her classmate Samantha Cowan recorded 13 bench points.

The Greyhounds opened the game with a 10-4 run in the first six minutes of play but the Cardinals answered with a 13-4 run of their own, to earn the advantage after the first quarter. With 2:35 to play in the period, Cowan hit a layup to tie the game at 11. Smith later hit a layup and two free throws while sophomore Megan Stafford secured another bucket for the 17-14 Catholic lead.

Moravian tied the game at 21 within the first five minutes of the second quarter and Catholic continued to battle. The Cards trailed by four points (25-21) with 4:15 minutes remaining the periods. The league opponents went basket-for-basket before a layup from Smith in the final 10 seconds gave Catholic a one-point (30-29) edge at the break.

Poindexter sunk the first shot after the halftime intermission and Catholic didn't relinquish its lead through the first six minutes of the quarter. Now trailing, but unwilling to surrender, Poindexter made a layup with 43.0 seconds on the clock to tie the game at 45 points apiece heading into the final 10-minute period.

Moravian got a quick basket and proceeded to make a 9-5 run to gain an eight-point (58-50) advantage over Catholic with under six minutes to play. The Cardinals fought back but the Greyhounds ran away with the momentum on their home court to capture the conference victory.

Catholic remains on the road to travel to Towson, Md., to face Landmark opponent Goucher College on Wednesday, January 17 at 7 p.m.
