WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's basketball team kept its home record unblemished (7-0) as it topped Landmark Conference opponent Moravian College, 85-80, in a hard-fought contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds took an early 21-16 lead after the first 10 minutes. The Lady Cards closed the gap and found themselves down just one point (31-30) with 5:31 to play in the in the second period. Sophomore Payton Smith put up a jumper bringing Catholic ahead, 32-31, and the Cards held the advantage though the final buzzer.

The scoreboard read 43-35, in favor of Catholic, at the halftime intermission, but the Moravian came back from the break looking for vengeance. Down 70-66 with less than four minutes to play, the Hounds dropped four points to equilzed the game.

After a completed free throw from CUA junior Bridget Power, the Lady Cards hit back-to-back triples, first from junior Michelle DeSantis followed by senior Jayni Webster, gaining the momentum for the victory.

Catholic junior Melissa Errico notched 26 points, tying her season-high against Randolph-Macon on Nov. 18. Senior Kristen Walheim grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as Migash and Smith each pulled down six and DeSantis dished out nine assists.

With the victory the Lady Cards advance their overall record to 12-7 overall and 7-3 in the Landmark while the Greyhounds move to to 15-4, 8-2.

Catholic will continue conference play at home against Elizabethtown on Wednesday, February 3 at 7 p.m.
