Team Notes

Catholic (24-4)
  • The Cardinals are hosting the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history, earning an at-large bid after falling to top-seeded Scranton in the Landmark Conference Championship Game. It is Catholic's seventh trip to the dance, all under current head coach Matt Donohue, coming off a trip to the second round last season.
  • The Cardinals are led in scoring by Anna Scoblick who averages 14.0 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. She was named the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned her second First Team All-Landmark selection. The other two All-Landmark honorees for Catholic are Keegan Douglas (First Team) and Carly Mulvaney (Second Team). Douglas earned her second first team selection, averaging 11.8 points per game, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Mulvaney comes in averaging 10.1 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 per game. 
  • Kerry Flaherty is the Cardinals sharpshooter, knocking down 43.3% of her attempts from deep this season and making 81 thus far on the season. Her 81 made threes are the most ever in a single season in Landmark history and she sits at fifth all-time in program history for made threes in a career with 140 entering the tournament. 
  • Catholic ranks among the top teams in the country in scoring margin (21.2/9th), three pointers made per game (8.3/16th), three point percentage (34.4, 16th), opposing field goal percentage (32.3, 17th) scoring offense (76.9, 18th) and rebounds per game (45.4/23rd).
  • The Cardinals are 2-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and have made the tourney in back-to-back seasons for the second time in program history. Catholic picked up its first win since the 2013 tournament last season against Penn State Behrend, 71-55. The Cardinals have not played any team in the pod in the postseason.
SUNY Geneseo (22-6)
  • The Knights earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after defeating Brockport on the road in the Empire 8 Championship Game, 66-63, in their first season in the conference after spending 54 years in the SUNYAC. It is Geneseo's 12th bid into the tournament and its first trip since reaching the second round in the 2019 dance.
  • Kristin Suydam leads the Knights in scoring with 12.1 points per game as well as rebounding with 7.3 to earn Second Team All-Empire 8 honors. Mackenzie Reigle and Kiley Snow both earned First Team All-Empire 8 honors with Reigle averaging 7.5 points and 8.0 assists per game and Snow averaging 11.3 points per game. Reigle was named the Empire 8 Tournament MVP after scoring a game-high 21 points in the championship game. Grace Galagano also earned all-conference honors with a spot on the third team.
  • Geneseo ranks among the nation's leaders as a team in opponents field goal percentage (31.1/7th), rebound margin (10.4, 15th), scoring defense (52.0, 25th), field goal percentage (43.5, 27th) and assists per game (16.6, 27th).
  • The Knights are 14-11 all-time in the NCAA Tournament including a stretch from 2015-19 where they made it five straight seasons and made the Sweet 16 twice. This will be the first ever meeting between Catholic and SUNY Geneseo.
Christopher Newport (26-1)
  • The Captains earned an automatic bid into the tournament after winning the Coast To-Coast Conference for their sixth consecutive conference championship with a 61-48 win over Mary Washington. This is CNU's 25th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the fifth-most in DIII history, and they hold a 37-23 record in the dance. 
  • Hannah Orloff is the lead player for the Captains, being named both the C2C Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. She comes in averaging 8.5 points per game and 7.2 rebounds while shooting nearly 60% from the field. Gabbi San Diego also earned first team honors and Camille Malagar was named to the second team, leading the team in points per game with 10.2. 
  • CNU ranks among the nation's leaders in scoring margin (26.0, 4th), steals per game (16.6, 4th), turnovers forced (30.7, 4th), assists per game (18.3, 6th), blocks per game (5.5, 8th) and scoring offense (78.8, 12th).
  • The Captains reached the NCAA Championship game in 2023, falling to Transylvania 57-52 in a 31-1 season for the program. Since 2019, CNU holds a 127-5 record with three of the losses coming in the NCAA Tournament. The Captains have reached the Sweet 16 12 times in program history and the Final Four three times. They are 2-0 all-time against Montclair State.
Montclair State (23-4)
  • Montclair State earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament field after defeating TCNJ, 72-63, in the NJAC Tournament Championship Game. The Red Hawks secured a 12-point victory over William Paterson in the semis before holding off the Lions in the final. Olivia Vero led the way in the NJAC Championship with 24 points and 10 rebounds to help the Hawks pick up their eighth conference title. 
  • Montclair State will make its 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its first since 2020. The Red Hawks fell to George Fox in the First Round in 2020, but have a strong history in the tournament, boasting an all-time record of 17-10. Montclair State reached the Sweet Sixteen in 2018, hosting the first two rounds and earning victories over Old Westbury and Gettysburg before falling to Amherst. The 2015 team reached the Final Four before being eliminated by George Fox. 
  • The Montclair State Coaching Staff led by Karin Harvey earned NJAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors, posting a 23-4 record. She was joined by freshman Alyssa Craigwell, who was named the conference's Rookie of the Year. Craigwell was joined on the All-NJAC First Team by Sophie Beneventine, while Vero was a second-team selection. Craigwell averaged 15.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, scoring a season-best 30 points in the regular-season finale versus TCNJ. Beneventine, a Division I transfer from Boston University, averaged 6.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. She recorded the sixth triple-double in Montclair State history versus Stockton. Vero averaged 13.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game this season. 
  • A well-rounded team that ranks inside the top-50 nationally in many statistical categories, Montclair State is sixth in the nation in three-point percentage defense with teams shooting just 22.4 percent from deep against them.
