Catholic Competes At IRA Championships For Second Consecutive Year

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - During a weather-altered weekend in New Jersey, Catholic men's rowing competed at the IRA National Championship Regatta for the second straight year. The Cardinals were one of 34 boats invited to compete in the Men's Varsity Four competition, and one of 31 boats to enter the water for time trials on Friday.

The Cardinals took to the water on Friday afternoon, taking off as the 21st first boat in the water during time trials. The Cardinals posted the 27th-fastest time of 6:45.02, edging out Williams and finishing just behind Coast Guard and Wisconsin. Catholic was then placed into a semifinal based on the time trial time, but during the afternoon, boats were called out of the water in the best interests of the "health and safety of the student-athletes" with thunderstorms impending and temperatures pushing up over 95 degrees in New Jersey.

After canceling the rest of Friday's races, the Men's Varsity Four semifinals were canceled and each boat was placed into a final based on the time trial time. Catholic was put into final number five with six other boats. The Cardinals placed fifth, finishing with a time of 7:43.26, beating Wisconsin and Massachusetts Maritime. The Cardinals finished just two seconds behind Williams and Georgetown's boats while Coast Guard won Final 5 with a time of 7:34.28.
