Cardinals Find Podium Finish in Petite Final at Knecht Cup

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The Catholic men's rowing team traveled to the Cooper River to compete in the Knecht Cup. 

In the One Varsity 8+ boat, Matthew Blomgren served as the coxswain. Jack Koubek sat in the stroke with Sean Farrelly in the bow. Other members of the boat were Alan Nicholas (7), Jonah Stofko (6), Jeffrey Cone (5), Mason Zajac (4), Franklin Hudak (3), and Luis Pinero (2).

In the Men's Varsity Eight second heat on Saturday, the boat raced a time of 6:35.59, placing third in their heat. With this time, the Cardinals advanced to the Grand Final where they raced a time of 6:42.48. They finished in sixth place.

In the Two Varsity 8+ boat, David Bernardo was the coxswain. Owen Spelman served as the stroke, while Thomas Robertson sat in the bow. Other members of the boat were Adam Cagno (7), Peter Huber (6), Bryce Wnek (5), Andrew Driscoll (4), James Pickell (3), and Peter Keller (2). 

In the Men's Varsity Eight first heat on Saturday, the boat raced a time of 7:41.67. In the Petite Final on Sunday, the Cardinals improved their time to 7:31.40 and secured the third place finish.

The Cardinals also recognized their seniors on the squad: Matthew Blomgren, Jack Koubek, Mason Zajac, Luis Pinero, Sean Farrelly, Peter Huber, Bryce Wnak, and Thomas Robertson.

Up next, Catholic will compete at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships on Saturday, May 2nd in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
