Freshman Duo Hudak and Cone Collect Win at the Head of the Schuylkill


PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Catholic men's rowing team traveled to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.

The Head of the Schuylkill is a two-day regatta along the Schuylkill River and is noted as one of the most challenging courses in the country. This is the Cardinals' sixth time competing in this at this event.

In the Men's Collegiate doubles, the Cardinals were first in Division III and third overall. Freshman Franklin Hudak sat in the bow and freshman Jeffery Cone was in the bow. The freshman duo raced a 14:19.624, with a time of 3:35.0 at the first checkpoint and 9:52.7 at the second. 

The Men's Championship Fours with a Coxswain raced a time of 13:45.066. This time allowed the team to earn a fifth place finish in Division III and 20th overall. Caleb Gascoyne sat as the coxswain with Jack Koubek in the stroke and Sean Farrelly in the bow. Jonah Stofko (2) and Alan Nicholas (3) round out the boat. 

The Cardinals raced an alumni eight for the first time. Members included Chmielewski (cox), Fritz III (stroke), Shields (7), McGann (6), Coy (5), Nugent (4), Madaras (3), Wright (2), and Newman (bow). The team raced 13:32.692 on the river. 

This was the final race of the fall season for the Cardinals.
