Box Score TOWSON, Md. – Catholic women's lacrosse won its third straight game, blitzing Goucher 24-0 on the road on Wednesday evening at Beldon Field.
Izzy Fiore scored four goals to lead 15 different goal-scorers offensively. Defensively, Catholic held the Gophers to just two total shots and forced 21 turnovers. Tori Wilsey had four draw controls for the Cardinals while Abby Monaco caused three turnovers to lead the team.
Catholic scored 14 goals in the first quarter with seven of them coming in the first three minutes of the contest. After five minutes of game action, the Cardinals led 10-0 to start the running clock.
The first 10 goals were all scored by different players. In order, Catholic's 10-0 lead came via goals from Kate Olsen, Anna Corona, Caroline Beckett, Mia Scarduzio, Shelby Graser, Monaco, Lindsay Sawyer, Grace English, Maddie Rinker, and Fiore. Fiore scored two more goals in the quarter while Mattea Del Peschio and Julia Ferraiolo scored for Catholic as well. Beckett, Wilsey, Graser, Monaco, Del Peschio, Mia Perkell, and Madeline Kelly all assisted on goals in the period.
Perkell scored her first goal of the game with 59 seconds left in the first half to become the 13th different scorer. Riley Cherkes scored the first goal of the third period to make it 18-0 while Kelly became the final different goal scorer to put Catholic up 19-0 with 3:36 left in the third.
STATS OF NOTE
- With two goals in the win, Olsen has reached 30 goals scored for the 2023 campaign. She leads the team and is second in points with 36.
- With three goals tonight, Sawyer now has scored seven goals in the past two games to give her 14 for the season. She is a perfect six-for-six on free-position shots and she has scored on 14 of her 18 shots on goal this season.
- Fiore (11) and Kelly (10) become the sixth and seventh Cardinals to reach 10 goals scored this season.
- The 14-goal first quarter marks just the second time since the switch from halves to quarters that Catholic scored at least 10 goals in a quarter. The Cardinals scored 10 in the first quarter of a 21-6 win at Elizabethtown on April 9, 2022.
- This is the Cardinals' first shutout since a 19-0 victory versus Juniata on April 14, 2018.
