Olsen Scores Five Goals in Last-Minute Loss to Red Devils

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Kate Olsen scored five goals on Saturday afternoon at Carlini Field, but Dickinson scored a last-minute goal to defeat the 18th-ranked Catholic women's lacrosse team by a score of 13-12. Catholic falls to 1-3 on the season while the Red Devils improve to 3-0 after a second consecutive win against a ranked team. 

After Dickinson took a 12-11 lead with 3:34 remaining in the contest, Catholic answered back to tie the game as Grace Hill converted on a free-position shot with 2:29 left to tie the game at 12. The Red Devils then scored on a free-position shot with 54 seconds left to steal away the victory at Carlini. 

Catholic came out of the gates firing, taking a 4-0 lead with 7:36 remaining in the first as four different Cardinals scored during the run. Caroline Beckett opened the scoring before assisting on Olsen's first goal a few minutes later. Izzy Fiore scored to make it 3-0 before Shelby Graser converted on a free-position shot. The Red Devils scored the next three to chip away, but Mia Perkell scored off a Jessie Lee assist, putting Catholic ahead 5-3 with 1:47 to go. Dickinson scored 30 seconds later, but Beckett's second goal of the quarter gave Catholic a 6-4 lead after 15 minutes of play. 

After 10 goals in the first, the second quarter saw just four goals, two from each team. Olsen scored both second-period goals, bookending a pair of Red Devil goals to give Catholic an 8-6 halftime lead and Olsen a first-half hat trick. 

In the third, Olsen scored at the 10:44 mark off another Lee assist to put Catholic ahead 9-6, but the Red Devils answered with the next three goals as Liz Barroll tied it with 5:39 to go in the quarter. Hill put Catholic back on top with 1:49 left, but Faith Parker scored for the Red Devils with 26 seconds left in the third. 

Olsen's fifth and final goal of the game came less than three minutes into the fourth, putting Catholic ahead 11-10 before the Red Devils tied it with 9:13 remaining. 

To go with a pair of assists, Lee recorded three ground balls and five draw controls. Iszy Del Peschio led the game with six ground balls for Catholic. 

Olsen's five goals give her a team-best 11 goals through four games this season. With a pair of assists today, Beckett is now at nine for the season and 80 for her career. 

Catholic's next game will come on Wednesday evening at St. Mary's (Md.) The contest is scheduled for 6 p.m.
