Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - 21st-ranked Catholic women's lacrosse hosted fourth-ranked Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon with the Generals coming away victorious, 12-6. The Cardinals drop to 2-4 on the season while Washington & Lee improves to 6-0.
Kate Olsen and Grace Hill each scored two goals and added an assist for the Cardinal offense while Rachel Rubenstein scooped four ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers in front of freshman goalkeeper Laura Sullivan who started her second career contest and made nine saves.
Olsen scored the game's first goal just 60 seconds into the contest, beating Caroline Kranich off a feed from Caroline Beckett. W&L answered at the 12:12 mark of the first period, tying the contest with a goal from Alex Petras before taking the lead with 7:18 remaining in the first. The Generals took a 6-1 lead in the middle of the second quarter before Hill scored Catholic's second goal with an assist from Mia Perkell. Beckett scored off an assist from Olsen at the first-half buzzer to pull the Cardinals within four goals at the break.
After trailing by six goals with seven minutes to play in the third, Catholic ripped off a three-goal run to get back within three heading into the final period. Madeline Kelly scored an unassisted goal with four minutes to play in the third. Olsen followed just over a minute later with her second goal before Hill cut the deficit to 9-6 with her second goal off of a feed from Kelly. The Generals scored all three fourth-quarter goals to come away with the victory.
Jessie Lee recorded three ground balls for Catholic while Sullivan added three ground balls to go with her nine saves and two caused turnovers. Iszy Del Peschio caused two turnovers for Catholic.
Catholic will host the University of Chicago on Saturday at noon for Alumni Day at Carlini Field.
