Cardinals Dominate Second Half In 75-47 Win Over Goucher

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic women's basketball outscored Goucher 48-19 in the second half of Wednesday night's 75-47 victory on Franny Murray Court. Five different Cardinals scored at least 11 points in the contest, led by 14 from Carly Mulvaney

Catholic entered the second half trailing 28-27 before ripping off a 22-2 run in the third to take a 49-30 lead. Mulvaney knocked down a three off an assist from Keegan Douglas 55 seconds into the half to put the Cardinals back on top, 30-28. The Gophers answered to tie it at 30 with 8:40 to go in the quarter before Catholic began a 20-0 run, spanning 7:20. Mulvaney scored the next four points for Catholic and assisted on a layup from Anna Scoblick, making it 10 straight points that she either scored or assisted on.

With 3:20 left in the third, Sarah White drilled a three off a feed from Mulvaney to put Catholic up 41-30, its largest lead to that point. Rachel Bussanich and Mulvaney each knocked down a set of free throws to put the Cardinals on top by 15 with 2:33 to go in the third. Erin Doherty scored off a Mulvaney feed with 2:02 left in the quarter and knocked down two more free throws with just under a minute to play in the quarter, completing the 20-0 run before Goucher's Kyla Smith ended it with a three. 

Erin Thompson hit a three off a Scoblick feed 27 seconds into the fourth to put Catholic up by 21. Scoblick scored at the 8:29 mark off a feed from Douglas before the inverse happened at the 7:35 mark to put the Cardinals ahead 58-33. With 6:09 left to go, Sammie McCarter drained a three to put Catholic up 27 and Douglas followed with a three to give the Cardinals their first 30-point lead of the game. 

Mulvaney grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go with 14 points while Douglas (12 points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals) and Scoblick (12 points, five rebounds, four assists, five steals) stuffed the stat sheet. White and Doherty each had 11 points off the bench with White adding four steals to the cause. The Cardinals tallied 17 steals and forced 29 turnovers in the win. Kyani Quarles had a double-double (15 pts, 12 reb) to lead the way for Goucher. 

Catholic travels to Scranton on Saturday afternoon, putting a four-game win streak on the line against the fourth-ranked Royals. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
