Box Score ASHLAND, Va. — The Catholic University Field Hockey team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday night, as it put four past Randolph-Macon in Ashland.
The Cardinals were dominant for the entire 60 minutes, finding the net through four different players and holding the Yellow Jackets to just one shot in the game.
Catholic opened the scoring in the first quarter when junior midfielder Kellie Caputo found the back of the cage nine minutes into the contest. The Cardinals added two more in the second quarter through seniors Molly McEvoy and Gracie Burford to carry a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Junior Ashley Martin completed the scoring when she beat substitute goalkeeper Cathryn Short with just under four minutes remaining.
Catholic's defense was sound, conceding only two penalty corners. The Cardinals outshot Randolph-Macon 14-1, and the Yellow Jackets' lone shot was not on target.
Freshman defender Mary Rojack continues to impress, looking sharp in defense again tonight, while freshman goalkeeper Abigail Kearney earned the first win of her career, following outings of seven and eight saves to begin the season.
The Cardinals look to build momentum when they conclude a three-game road trip on Saturday. They will travel to Carlisle, Pa., to face Dickinson College in a contest that is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
