Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's soccer secured a 2-2 draw with St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday night as junior Jordan Siok provided two goal contributions.
Siok scored one goal and provided one assist in a single match for the second time already this season, dispatching her first-half penalty to help the Cardinals carry a 1-0 advantage into halftime. She coolly slotted the spot kick away in the 16th minute after the referee spotted a Seahawk handball in the penalty area.
Catholic perhaps should have been ahead by more after outshooting the Seahawks 14-1 in the first 45 minutes.
After the Seahawks scored with their first shot on target of the match four minutes into the second half, Siok turned on the tricks to create the Cardinal's second goal. She danced past two defenders while attacking down the left before providing a brilliant low cross with her left foot. Isabella DeAvila made no mistake at the far post, finishing with ease and restoring the Cardinal advantage.
Catholic continued to press for a third goal but could not find the back of the net again. The Seahawks were resilient, pegging the Cardinals back twice, the second coming with under four minutes remaining. A long ball found its way to Ella Raines who finished off the far post to secure a brace on the evening and knick a point for St. Mary's.
The Cardinals were dominant in possession, keeping the ball for large portions of the match and outshooting the Seahawks, 28-5. Emma Tawney was big in St. Mary's goal, registering nine saves.
Katarina Bauer and Isabel Doherty also looked lively going forward, combining to put seven shots toward the Seahawk goal. Siok put a game-high five efforts toward net.
Catholic looks to get back to winning ways on Saturday when the team begins its conference schedule. The Cardinals will welcome the Royals of Scranton University to Carlini Field for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
