Five Cardinals Selected to All-Landmark Conference Teams

TOWSON, Md.  — The Catholic women's soccer team had five players selected to the All-Landmark Conference teams with three players on the first team and two on the second team, it was announced today. The Cardinals five selections were the second-most out of anyone in the conference this season. 

In the midfield, the Cardinals secured two spots on the All-Landmark First Team between Caroline Aponte and Alex Berish. In her first season with the program, Aponte led the team in goals (6) and points (16) and her point total was tied for the eighth-best in the conference. Aponte was also tied for eighth in the Landmark in assists with four which was tied for the team lead. She also tied the program's record for goals in a single-game against Goucher when she scored five against the Gophers to tie a record that dated back to 1998. Berish was also a key member of the midfield for Catholic this season as she logged the second most minutes on the team with 1,626. Berish is now a two-time All-Landmark selection after earning a spot on the second team last season. She scored a pair of goals against Moravian for her first career multi-goal performance and also added an assist against St. John Fisher. 

Teighan Boyle earned the other first team honor for Catholic for her second career All-Landmark selection after earning honorable mention in 2023. As a center back, Boyle picked up career-highs in goals (2), assists (4) and points (8) while being the lone player on the team to play and start in all 21 games. She also led the team in minutes played with 1,669 and her and Berish both helped lead the Cardinals to 10 shutouts over the course of the season with a goals against average of 0.67 which was second-best in the Landmark.

The Cardinals two second team honorees were Ava Rieger and Sam Cesario as the program has now had two second teamers in four consecutive seasons. For Rieger, it is her third All-Landmark selection in her career and her second time being on the second team. She put together another stellar season in goal, making 65 saves with a GAA of 0.67 with nine shutouts. Rieger currently holds the program career records for shutouts (32), save percentage (.822) and GAA (0.80). Despite missing the first half of the season, Cesario came into the lineup and made an immediate impact for Catholic to earn her second career All-Landmark honor. In just 10 games of game action, Cesario finished tied for the team-lead in goals with six and also added a pair of assists to finish with 14 points which was second on the team. Three of her goals were game-winners, including scoring the lone goal in the Cardinals 1-0 semifinal win over Lycoming in the Landmark Conference tournament.
