Box Score

GRANVILLE, Ohio - Jane Bailey scored with 1:54 remaining in the first overtime to lift Denison to a 13-12 come-from-behind victory over the Catholic University women's lacrosse team Sunday in the NCAA Second Round.

The 14th-ranked Cardinals (14-5) have advanced to at least the second round in all 13 of their appearances in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship.

The Big Red scored seven of the game's final nine goals over the fourth quarter and overtime to rally from a four-goal deficit.

Trailing 12-9 with 8:01 left in the fourth following the second career hat-trick from sophomore Anna Corona, Denison won three of the final four draw controls in regulation en route to scoring the final three goals to tie game and force overtime.

The hosts also won the opening draw of overtime, scoring the game-winner when Bailey netted her lone goal of the game on the first shot of the extra period.

The Big Red (12-6), who were receiving votes in the latest IWLCA Division III Coaches Poll, outshot Catholic, 34-24, including 12-5 in the fourth quarter. They also held a slim 16-13 margin in draw controls while holding the Cardinals to 16-of-22 on clears. Catholic was 5-of-10 in the second half and overtime.

With the Cardinals leading 9-3 with 7:10 left in the second quarter, Denison made a goalie change after allowing nine goals on 10 shots on goal. Maeve Caldwell played the final 37:48, surrendering just three goals on nine shots while making six saves.

Senior Rachel Searle went the distance for Catholic, stopping nine shots. Meanwhile, sophomore Rachel Rubenstein was credited with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Junior Kate Olsen led Catholic with three goals and three assists, her 12th game of the season with at least three goals. She finished the season with 56 goals, the most for the team since Nicolette Crisalli had 78 in 2018.

Corona also finished with three goals to go along with five draw controls while junior Caroline Beckett totaled two goals and two assists. Beckett finished with 52 assists this year and totaled a team-high 81 points, the most by a Cardinal since assistant coach Holly Regan had 94 and Crisalli totaled 86 in 2018.
