No. 18 Catholic Completes Undefeated Conference Slate

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Catholic University women's lacrosse team downed Moravian 18-5 on Saturday en route to an undefeated Landmark Conference regular season.

12 different Cardinals found the back of the net, led by multi-goal scorers senior Clare Richards (two goals) and juniors Caroline Beckett (three goals) and Kate Olsen (four goals). Beckett also contributed two assists as she and Olsen both registered five points each.

Catholic (11-4, 6-0 LC) got off to a strong start, outscoring Moravian (8-9, 5-2 LC) 8-0 over the game's opening 18 minutes. Sophomore Riley Cherkes started the run at the 12:16 mark off a feed from Beckett, followed by a finish from Richards just 30 seconds later. Beckett and senior Anna Maupin connected on the next two goals less than 90 seconds later and the Cardinals led 6-0 after the first quarter. 

Beckett completed her hat-trick less than a minute into the second quarter and senior Julia Piet scored on a free position opportunity to push the lead to 8-0. Olsen then stepped up and strung together four goals in less than eight minutes as the Cardinals stretched their lead to 12 at the half time break.

Sophomore Lauren Davidson got the start for Catholic to earn the victory, making three saves on five shots faced.

Junior Abby Monaco and freshmen Madeline Kelly and Kayla Brooks all converted on free position opportunities in the third quarter to total all three goals for the Cardinals while freshman Caroline Regan scored in the fourth to provide the final tally.

Senior Rachel Searle played the final 30 minutes in goal, making two saves over the second half.

On the draw circle, five Cardinals each won two, including senior Molly Monaghan, who also contributed two caused turnovers, a ground ball and an assist.

Defensively, sophomore Rachel Rubenstein led Catholic with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

With the win, the Cardinals earned the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs that begin on Wednesday, May 4. Catholic will host No. 4 Drew on Carlini Field at 7 p.m.
