Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University women's lacrosse senior Rachel Searle totaled four saves, four ground balls and three caused turnovers as the No. 14 Cardinals posted a 14-8 win over Kenyon Sunday at Carlini Field.
Catholic (2-1) outscored the Lords 6-0 in the third quarter to take a nine-goal lead into the fourth as it captured the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Junior Grace Hill totaled four points with three goals and one assist as she posted her third career hat-trick and first this season. Junior Caroline Beckett also had four points with one goal and three assists and now leads the team with 12 points and eight assists in just two games.
Three Cardinals netted their first goals of the season, including freshmen Jessie Lee and Caroline Regan who each picked up the first of their careers.
Catholic scored six of the game's first seven goals, including two from Hill and the first two of the year by senior Julia Piet, to take a 6-1 lead with 9:28 remaining in the second quarter.
Led by two goals from Ali Hatfield, Kenyon (2-1) answered with three consecutive tallies to pull within two before Hill netted her third of the game with 1:01 left to give the Cardinals a 7-4 haftime lead.
Catholic outshot the Lords, 37-16, including 11-2 in the third, while forcing 23 turnovers and totaling a season-high 13 turnovers. Led by Searle, nine players had at least one caused turnover.
The Cardinals also held a 16-10 advantage in draw controls, seven of which came from senior Molly Monaghan.
After hosting Kenyon it its first game in 11 days, Catholic faces another long layoff before returning to action on Saturday, March 12 against No. 3 Washington and Lee. It will mark the first meeting between the two teams since March 17, 2018 when the Generals won 13-9 in Lexington, Va.
