WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Catholic women's lacrosse team hit the road for another Landmark match up against Wilkes on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals were dominant over the Colonels, allowing only one goal to capture the 23-1 victory.
Catholic's mission to take down Wilkes started with the opening draw, scoring just 32 seconds into game action.
Henley Bredemann was the first to get on the board, netting a goal off an assist from
Izzy Fiore. Within that first minute,
Maddie McDevitt scored a goal of her own, assisted by
Maggie Traynor. Traynor then followed with another goal, capitalizing on a man-up opportunity to put the Cardinals up 3-0 over the Colonels.
The hunt for a double-figure lead continued in the first quarter as nine different Cardinals found the back of the net.
Annie Galarza contributed the fourth goal of the game, scoring while the Cardinals were a man down.
Lindsay Sawyer followed her lead, scoring within the same minute, unassisted. Bredemann notched her second goal of the game, once again taking advantage of a man-up situation. Fiore,

Tori Wilsey,
Sophia Callano all contributed a goal in the first quarter. McDevitt concluded the quarter with her second goal of the game, putting Catholic up 11-0.
Bredemann scored the first goal of the second quarter, the 12th straight for Catholic. Wilkes then responded, scoring their first and only goal of the game when Emily Jackson snuck one past
Jamie Handwerger, assisted by Mara Adams to put the Colonels on the board. The Cardinals answered with three more goals, first from freshman
Olivia Eikenberg, her second of the season. Rinker and McDevitt continued their quest for a hat trick, scoring their second goals of the game. The Cardinals were up 15-1 at the half.
Catholic aimed to grow their lead in the second half, and they started with a goal from Sawyer, then Rinker secured her hat trick just minutes later, both scoring off feeds from Bredemann.
Katie Raymond picked up her first goal of the game, Eikenberg notched her second, andÂ
Peyton Wozniak closed out the third quarter with the 20th goal of the game as the defense held Wilkes to just one goal.
The game was not complete without goals from three freshmen in the final quarter.
Carly Mathieu started it off, followed by a goal from Raymond, her second of the game.
Allie Buonaccorsi capped the day with her first goal, her third of the season. Catholic maintained a strong defensive, keeping the Colonels scoreless in the second half, defeating them 23-1.Â
Bredemann had three goals against the Colonels, recording her fourth hat trick of the season. She also logged two assists to total five points. Rinker and McDevitt also had hat tricks against Wilkes.
Traynor had five assists on the day, including three-straight in the first quarter, and scored one goal for a total of six points. Eikenberg, Sawyer, and Raymond each contributed two goals to the dominant victory. Sawyer and Bredemann are tied for first atop the leaderboard with 19 goals apiece this season.
Wilsey and
Ariana Bransfield led with four draw controls each, with Wilsey recording one goal and a caused turnover. Four goalkeepers saw game action against Wilkes, with
Alexandra Ragano securing the win to improve her record to 5-4. Handwerger and
Olivia Koch each had two saves while Ragano and
Audrey Bassolino each had one.
With this victory, Catholic has improved their record to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in Landmark Conference play. Up next, the Cardinals will head to Glassboro, N.J. for a non-conference match up against Rowan. The game is set for Tuesday, March 31 at 1 p.m.
