Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The No. 16 Catholic University women's lacrosse team opened up Landmark Conference play in dominating fashion Saturday, posting a 17-1 road victory over Susquehanna at Sassafrass Field.
With the victory, the Cardinals (4-4, 1-0 LC) extended their conference win streak to 45 games, dating back to the 2014 season.
Catholic had 18 different players register at least one point with 15 different scorers combining for 17 goals. Junior Caroline Beckett led the Cardinals with one goal and three assists while senior Anna Maupin scored two goals and registered one helper.
Susquehanna (7-4, 0-1 LC) struck first, scoring the first goal of the game less than one minute in. The Cardinals' defense locked down as senior Rachel Searle and sophomore Lauren Davidson combined for seven saves. Davidson totaled a career-high five saves.
Eight different players scored a goal in the first quarter as the Cardinals took an 8-1 lead. Beckett registered a goal and two assists to senior Clare Richards and junior Kate Olsen.
The second quarter saw two Cardinals register their first career goals as freshman Kayla Brooks scored off a pass from sophomore Riley Martin just 27 seconds into the quarter. After Olsen and Maupin netted their second goals on the afternoon, sophomore Kaila Bernstiel and freshman Caroline Regan combined for a goal on a woman-up opportunity with 2:11 remaining.
Freshman Jessie Lee assisted sophomore Julia Ferraiolo on her first goal of the season to start the third and freshman Grace English scored the first goal of her career on a free-position as the Cardinals led 15-1 after three. Defensively, Catholic allowed just five shots in the quarter.
Martin also registered her first goal of the season to provide the final tally in the fourth quarter.
Defensively, Searle and junior Madison Sever scooped up four ground balls apiece while Richards had a season-high seven draw controls. As a team, Catholic dominated the draw circle, winning 19 of 22 draw controls.
The Cardinals return to action next Saturday when they host conference rival Scranton. Opening draw is set for noon at Carlini Field.
