No. 16 Cardinals Fall at No. 6 Franklin & Marshall, 15-6

LANCASTER, Pa. - No. 6 Franklin & Marshall scored nine goals over the first and fourth quarters en route to a 15-6 victory over the No. 16 Catholic University women's lacrosse team Wednesday at Shadek Stadium.

All four losses for the Cardinals (3-4) this season have come against teams ranked in the top-20 of the IWLCA Division III Coaches Poll.

Senior Anna Maupin finished with two points, five ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers while junior Caroline Beckett scored two goals.

The Diplomats (6-1) scored the game's first four goals and led 5-2 after the first quarter with Gillian Brennan and Ally Marino each finding the back of the net twice.

Marino had a hand in both second-quarter goals for Franklin & Marshall as it led 7-3 at halftime. Beckett, senior Molly Monaghan and senior Anna Maupin scored first-half tallies for Catholic.

The Cardinals were limited to three goals on 13 first-half shots by Diplomat goalie Emily Kitchin who made seven of her 13 saves.

After back-to-back goals by Franklin & Marshall to start the third, Catholic netted three of the game's next four to cut its deficit to four, 10-6, with 59 seconds remaining following the sixth goal of the season from sophomore Shelby Graser.

Marino tied her career-high with her fifth goal of the game with just 26 seconds left to put the Diplomats back in front by five entering the fourth, 11-6.

Franklin & Marshall outscored the Cardinals 4-0 in the fourth with Marino adding two more tallies to finish the game with seven. The 2021 IWLCA Second Team All-American added two assists to set a new career high with nine points.

Catholic held a 14-11 edge in draw controls while senior Iszy Del Peschio totaled three caused turnovers and senior Rachel Searle made nine saves.

Seven of the Diplomats' 15 goals came on free-position shots where the team was 7-for-9.

The Cardinals open Landmark Conference play on Saturday at Susquehanna. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
