Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University women's lacrosse team dropped their first-ever meeting with No. 20 Bowdoin on Saturday, 20-13, on Wednesday night.
The Cardinals (2-3) were led by junior Kate Olsen, who notched six goals and one assist to go along with two ground balls and a career-high two draw controls.
The Polar Bears (2-2) struck first to take a 2-0 lead, before Olsen scored off a pass from senior Caitlyn Bowles. The two teams traded goals the rest of the quarter as Bowdoin took a 6-3 lead after 15 minutes.
Bowdoin strung together a 9-3 run in the second quarter to stretch their lead to eight at the halftime break, 14-6. Senior Molly Monaghan scored her first goal of the season in the period while junior Caroline Beckett dished out two of her team-high three assists.
After posting two more goals in the third quarter, including sophomore Anna Corona's second, the Cardinals stepped up offensively in the fourth quarter, posting five of the final six goals. Senior Julia Piet scored two goals in the fourth, netting multiple goals in a game for the third consecutive contest. The pair of Olsen and Beckett also connected once more in the fourth quarter as the two combined for three goals on the afternoon.
Defensively, sophomore Rachel Rubenstein surpassed her career-high, which she set in Catholic's game on Saturday, with nine ground balls in addition to two draw controls and a career-high three caused turnovers. Senior Anna Maupin led the Cardinals with seven draw controls while fellow classmate Iszy Del Peschio contributed a season-high four caused turnovers.
Senior Rachel Searle made a career-high 10 saves as she dropped to 2-3 on the season.
Catholic will look to bounce back on Saturday, March 19, when it hosts Roanoke on Carlini at 1 p.m.
