Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — The Catholic University women's basketball team earned a comprehensive road victory over St. Mary's (Md.) on Tuesday night.
Anna Scoblick led the way for the Cardinals, dropping a career-high 13 points in an extremely efficient performance that saw her shoot 5-of-7 from the floor. Amelia Baldo and Keegan Douglas also reached double figures, each pitching in with 11.
The trio of Scoblick, Baldo and Douglas combined for 35 points and 10 assists while only turning the ball over three times.
After a low-scoring opening quarter for both teams, Catholic took control in the second stanza. Carly Mulvaney and Douglas hit threes as the Cardinals started the second period on a 10-0 run and ultimately outscored the Seahawks 22-9 to take a 19-point lead into halftime.
St. Mary's was able to hang with Catholic in the third quarter before the Cardinals finished off the game by outsourcing the Seahawks 22-10 in the final frame.
Catholic made life extremely difficult for St. Mary's on the glass, outrebounding the Seahawks 54-34. The Cardinals grabbed a staggering 21 offensive boards as Mulvaney led Catholic with nine total rebounds.
Matt Donohue's team turned the Seahawk over 21 times which led to a 27-2 disparity in the points-off-turnovers category. The Cardinals took advantage of their dominance on the offensive glass as well, outsourcing St. Mary's 16-2 in second chance points.
St. Mary's 34 points is a season-low for Catholic opponents. The Cardinal defense held the Seahawks to just 25.9 percent from the field and 3-of-10 from beyond the three-point line.
A tight loss to Ithaca remains the only blip on Catholic's record as the Cardinals move to 5-1 on the season. They will now enjoy a week break from game action before resuming on Wednesday, Nov. 30, when they travel to Eastern. Tipoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 7 p.m.
