Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's soccer team put together a dominant display to celebrate Senior Day in style with a 4-0 triumph over Juniata.
Senior Liz Gorman led from the front, bagging a brace to power the Cardinals to their first Landmark Conference victory of the campaign.
She pushed Catholic ahead in the ninth minute, showing her hunger and striker's instinct as she reacted quickest to nod home a Lauren Cerda corner.
Gorman added her second goal late in the match from a similar situation, beating a crowd of players to a loose ball to get the decisive touch on a Savannah Hensley corner. The assist for Hensley marks her first of the season and the second of her career.
It was a memorable day for freshmen Isabel Doherty and Peyton Coron as well, as both players scored their first career goals.
Coron doubled Catholic's lead with under seven minutes remaining in the first half, following in after Doherty saw her shot blocked off the line. After Emily Harkins won the ball in the midfield, Coron played Ava Gregorio down the right. Gregorio's low cross found its way back to Doherty near the six-yard area, and after her strike was repelled by a defender, Coron made no mistake. Four Catholic freshmen combined for the tally.
Doherty would not be denied, putting herself on the scoresheet in the 70th minute. She pressed a Juniata defender, blocking her clearance into the air, and as the ball bounced away from the near post, she swung her left foot at it, firing it past the unsuspecting Eagle goalkeeper from an acute angle.
Senior goalkeeper Molly Krzywicki played the entire match, earning her first career win. Alexa Adelmann played 72 minutes, performing well in a midfield role.
Gorman took a staggering seven shots, averaging one attempt per less-than nine minutes on the pitch. The Cardinals outshot the Eagles 21-2 as a team.
Catholic will now begin a four-game road trip. The team's travels will commence on Wednesday, when they visit Towson, Md., to do battle with Goucher. Kickoff against the Gophers is set for 7 p.m.
