Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University baseball team defeated Susquehanna Saturday on Senior Day at Talbot, 9-0 and 6-5.

The Cardinals (11-9, 11-9 LC) were led by senior Nolan Lundholm who went 5-for-8 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Sophomore Derek Zelesnick was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Catholic 9, Susquehanna 0

Catholic scored nine runs on nine hits in game one. Sophomore Tucker Alch threw 6.2 innings to earn the win and improve to 5-0 this season. He scattered six hits, struck out four and did not allow a walk. Senior MJ Dziczkowski came on in relief to finish off the shutout, striking out the only batter he faced.

Alch improved his earned-run average to 0.96, the second-best in the Landmark Conference. He also leads the conference with five wins.

After two scoreless innings, sophomore Ben Nardi tripled to left center to score seniors Kendric Musser and Nicholas Torroella. Lundholm then singled up the middle to drive in Nardi and give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead after three.

Catholic added three more runs on two hit in the fifth. Lundholm reached on a fielding error before advancing to second on a passed ball. A bunt by junior Peter Giombetti moved Lundholm into scoring position when senior Tighe Watson singled to centerfield to score Lundholm.

With the bases loaded, Watson scored after Torroella was hit-by-pitch before Zelesnick scored on a wild pitch.

The Cardinals scored three runs in an inning for the third time in the bottom of the sixth to seal their nine-run win.

Lundholm led off the inning with a single followed by a walk from Giombetti. A fielding error allowed senior Michael Doody to reach first which to load the bases with only one out when Watson hit an RBI-double to right to score Lundholm.

Zelesnick wrapped up the inning with a two-run single to right that scored Watson and Giombetti.

Catholic 6, Susquehanna 5

The Cardinals scored two runs on two hits in the bottom of the first. A walk by Nardi and a bunt single by Watson put two runners on before Lundholm smacked an RBI-double to score Nardi. Senior Billy Duke then brought home Watson with an RBI-ground out.

The River Hawks (7-10, 7-7 LC) scored five unanswered runs, including four in the top of the fourth, to take 5-2 lead.

Catholic answered back immediately with three runs on two hits. An RBI-single to right by Watson turned into two runs on a throwing error that allowed Nardi and sophomore Zach Burton to cross the plate. Watson then scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 5-5.

Zelesnick started off the bottom of the fifth with a single before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Tommy Antonucci. Junior Matt Tesoriero entered the game as a pinch hitter and laced a doubled to score Zelesnick for the game-winning run.

Junior starter Nick Marini lasted 1.2 innings and faced 11 batters before being replaced by freshman Cormac Terry in third. Terry struck out seven over 5.1 innings to earn his second win of the season.

The Cardinals conclude their four-game series with the River Hawks in Selinsgrove Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
