Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University women's lacrosse junior Rachel Searle made six saves as the sixth-ranked Cardinals posted an 18-6 victory over Susquehanna in the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship Wednesday at Carlini Field.
Catholic (8-0) advanced to its 13th consecutive Landmark Conference championship game, having appeared in each one since the league's inaugural season in 2008.
Making her second-straight start, both against the River Hawks, Searle has totaled 15 saves during that time after making a career-high nine in Selinsgrove on April 21. She also improved her record to 2-0 this season and 4-0 in her career.
Offensively, sophomore Kate Olsen scored five goals, one shy of her career high, and totaled her sixth hat-trick in eight games this season. She scored four of the Cardinals' eight second-half goals.
Olsen was one of three players with at least three goals for Catholic as junior Clare Richards and sophomore Grace Hill each scored three. Hill netted her second career hat-trick, both in the last two games, while Richards totaled her third, all in the last four games.
The Cardinals scored nine of the game's first 11 goals, including seven-straight to take a 9-2 lead on Richards' second of the game with 10:48 remaining in the first half. They took their seven-goal advantage into halftime, 10-3.
Richards and Olsen scored back-to-back just 21 seconds apart to start the second half and give Catholic a 12-3 lead before the River Hawks (4-5) scored three of the next four to pull back within seven, 13-6, with 11:15 to play.
However, led by three goals from Olsen, the Cardinals scored the final five to to improve to 12-0 in the Landmark Conference semifinals. Freshman Riley Cherkes had a hand in the final three with a goal and two assists to Olsen.
Catholic held a commanding 21-4 edge in draw controls, led by eight from Richards and seven from junior Molly Monaghan. Monaghan also added two goals and two caused turnovers.
On Saturday, the Cardinals will face Scranton for the Landmark Conference championship for the fifth consecutive time. The two teams have met every year since 2016 with the exception of 2020 when there was no conference tournament. Game time will be announced Thursday.
