Box Score HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Catholic University women's lacrosse junior Clare Richards netted her first career hat-trick as the No. 7 Cardinals posted a 17-3 road win over Juniata Saturday at Gibbel Stadium.
Catholic (5-0, 5-0 LC) extended its conference win streak to 43 games and has outscored the Eagles 54-5 in three all-time meetings.
Richards, an Inside Lacrosse Second Team All-American as a draw control specialist in 2020, scored three goals to register her first hat-trick in 30 career games. In just five games this season, she has already equaled her career high of nine goals and 10 points set as a freshman in 2019.
Richards, who also had seven draw controls, almost had a natural hat-trick with three consecutive goals. She scored three of the Cardinals' four goals to end the first half and begin the second. The only one in between was a goal by senior Holly Regan with 7:15 remaining in the first.
Regan assisted on two of Richards' three goals, including her third just 34 seconds into the second half which marked the 100th assist of her career. She is one of just six players in team history to total 100 career assists.
Regan totaled five points on Saturday and now has 181 in 55 career games as she tries to become just the seventh player in team history to reach 200.
Senior Anna Maupin also had a hat-trick against the Eagles marking the 13th of her career. She also totaled four draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Sophomore Caroline Beckett set a new career high with five points on Saturday which included a career-high three assists.
Catholic jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game's first 1:42 on goals by Maupin and sophomores Grace Hill and Kate Olsen. All three came in a span of just 30 seconds.
With two goals apiece, Richards, Maupin and Olsen combined for six of the team's first 10 goals as the Cardinals led 10-2 at the half.
Catholic outscored the Eagles 7-1 in the second half with seven different players scoring a goal and Beckett assisting on three.
Three players saw action in goal for the Cardinals, including junior Rachel Searle who had two of the team's three saves. Senior Nanci Hernandez made her 63 career start and played the entire first half to pick up her 46th career victory.
Catholic returns home to face Susquehanna Wednesday at 4 p.m. on senior day. Prior to the game, the team will honors its seven seniors: Regan, Maupin, Hernandez, Bridget Beck, Kate Behlen, Michelle Brencher and Emily Bynoe.
