Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Goucher scored three unanswered goals in the second half en route to a 3-1 win over the Catholic University women's soccer team Wednesday night at Carlini Field.
The Cardinals (5-6-1, 0-4-0 LC) suffered their first loss to the Gophers since Oct. 23, 2013, snapping a six game win streak.
After a scoreless first half in which Catholic held a 13-4 advantage in shots, the Cardinals finally broke through on their first shot of the second half in the 49th minute. Freshman Katarina Bauer scored her first career goal on a cross into the box by junior Clare Nugent that deflected off of a Goucher defender and right to Bauer.
The lead would be short-lived as the Gophers (5-7-0, 1-3-0 LC) scored just over six minutes later to tie the game before taking the lead with their second goal only 1:18 later.
Goucher led 2-1 despite being outshot 17-8, scoring the game-tying and go-ahead goals on back-to-back shots in the 55th and 56th minute. Emma Yakim tied the game at 54:26 before Taylor Urie followed at 55:44 on a rebound off an attempted clear.
Sophomore Jordan Siok hit the post on a shot two minutes later, but Catholic could not get the equalizer before Yakim netted her second goal of the game to provide some insurance in the 85th minute.
The Cardinals took twice as many shots as the Gophers, 28-11, but had just 11 on goal while Goucher capitalized, scoring three goals on 10 second-half shots.
Jenna Abaza made 10 saves in goal for the visitors, including six in the second half while freshman Maeve Graham had three in over 55 minutes before giving way to Molly Krzywicki who had one in the final 34:16.
Catholic, who is 4-1 on the road this season, travels to Landmark Conference rival Scranton Saturday. The Royals are currently 12-0-0 this season and ranked at No. 20 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
