Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University women's basketball senior Sydney Poindexter scored a game-high 20 points as the Cardinals picked up their 20th win of the season with an 87-55 victory over Goucher Wednesday night on Franny Murray Court.
Catholic (20-4, 11-2 LC), who posted its fifth 20-win season in the last nine years, also posted its 20th consecutive win over the Gophers.
Poindexter totaled her seventh double double of the season and the 10th of her career with 20 points and 11 rebounds. She secured her third double double in the last five games with 3:12 remaining in the second quarter when she grabbed her 10th rebound to go along with 14 points as the Cards led 39-17.
After overcoming a slow start in which it led 18-12 after the first quarter and shot just 25.0 percent, Catholic outscored Goucher 27-14 in the second, going 12-for-22 from the floor. Senior Megan Stafford led the way, totaling eight points and five rebounds as the Cardinals' bench outscored the Gophers, 16-14.
The Cards increased their lead in the third, outscoring the visitors 22-11 and scoring 13 points off turnovers.
A total of 14 players scored at least one point for the Cardinals, including eight in the fourth quarter. Freshman Julia Setaro scored a career-high six points, going 2-for-2 from three-point range, while freshman Ella Torp grabbed a career-high five rebounds.
Junior Courtney McCool and freshman Madison Rosenberg each scored two points in the fourth while freshman Julia Samar picked up two assists. Freshman Julia Tomlinson also had an assist as freshmen accounted for 14 of the team's 20 fourth-quarter points and all four assists as Catholic outscored Goucher, 20-18.
Freshmen Erin Doherty and Samantha McCarter finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The Cardinals outrebounds the Gophers, 59-23, and held a 20-9 advantage in second-chance points.
Catholic looks to secure home court advantage throughout the 2020 Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Championship on Saturday as its wraps up the regular season at Drew. Tip-off from Baldwin Gymnasium is at 4 p.m.
