Cardinals Finish Second at Landmark Championships

BRANCHBURG, N.J. - In the first conference championship in team history, the Catholic University women's golf team finished second in the Landmark Championships this weekend at Fox Hollow Golf Club, carding a 754 team score.

The Cardinals shot 387 on Saturday and 367 on Sunday to total 754 (+178), following the championship winners Drew, who shot 713 over the two day competition. Catholic finished just head of Goucher (757) and Susquehanna (768) to take second place. Marywood, Scranton, Juniata, and Elizabethtown rounded out the standings.

Freshman Mary Colella and sophomore Tess Murphy tied for second out of 39 total golfers with a 177 score, earning them Co-Rookie of the Year honors from the Landmark Conference. Drew sophomore Lucy Lamb won the individual competition with her 152 (+8) score.

Despite the blue skies and sunshine, golfers faced less than favorable conditions on Saturday due to high winds. Lower scores came in round two on Sunday. Murphy shot a 90 on day one to position herself in second place overall. She then shot 87 on Sunday for a 177 (+33) overall score. The sophomore from Rockville Centre, N.Y. carded the second-most pars in the competition, behind Lamb, with 14. Murphy also had the third-best Par 4 (4.92) and Par 5 (5.75) scoring averages in the tournament.

Colella finished alongside Murphy in second after shooting a 92 and 85 to also score 177 (+33). She was the only golfer to shoot three birdies in the championship rounds, one short of Lamb's four. The freshman also had the fourth-best par-3 scoring, shooting a 3.58 average (+7).

Fellow first-year Olivia Brogan sat in seventh place after her day one 94 round. A 99 on Sunday gave her a 193 (+49) total score, good for a tie for 12th place. Brogan had one birdie and nine pars in the championship rounds. Freshman Jordan Farrell rounded out the scoring for head coach Ed Dolan, carding 111 and 110 for 221 (+77). Farrell had four pars in her two rounds.

Freshman JoJo Parker shot a 96 in one round of play on Sunday.

As forecasted in the conference preseason poll, the Cardinals impressed in their inaugural season to finish second in the Landmark.
