MOHNTON, Pa. – The Catholic women's golf team competed at the Alvernia Spring Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, looking to build off its first victory of the season over the weekend. The Cardinals were once again dialed in and shot a 345 as a team to top the leader board by 21 strokes to record another team first place finish.
Brooke Smith finished on top of the individual standings for the Cardinals by shooting an 80 over the 18 holes to win by two strokes over the next closest finisher. She came up with five pars on the front nine to start with a 41, before birdying 11 and parring four of the last six holes to finish the back nine with a 39 to top the leader board.
Catholic had two more players finish in the top 10 of the field in
Lauren Wright and
Gabi Courtney, who shot an 83 and 87 respectively. Wright placed in a tie for third and had a stretch on the front nine where she birdied twice and racked up five pars, including four in a row, over a seven hole stretch. She added three more pars to her total on the back nine to finish with an 83. Courtney's 87 put her in a tie for fifth as she picked up nine pars and a birdie throughout her round.
Meghan Mullen finished in a tie for 11th while shooting a 95, and
Klaudia Ritter (104),
Isabelle Seratch (106) and
Tyler Zierski (109) also competed for Catholic during the tournament.
The Cardinals are back on the course on Saturday, April 11 for the first round of the Cardinal Spring Classic. The tournament will take place in Hagerstown, Md. at the Black Rock Golf Course.
